In 2016 the enduring partnership between SLSQ and Westpac celebrated its 40th anniversary, making it one of the longest corporate-community sponsorships in Australia. During the past four decades, the relationship between SLSQ and Westpac has gone from strength to strength, with the benefits of this iconic partnership now filtering down through to all levels of surf lifesaving in Queensland.
However, it is the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service which remains the most tangible outcome of this partnership. It has been with thanks to the generous and ongoing support from Westpac that SLSQ has been able to expand its aerial surveillance capacity and operate two helicopter services in South East Queensland, covering an expanded area from Rainbow Bay to Rainbow Beach.
Our EC135 aircraft - 'Lifesaver 45' - was gifted to us by the State Government in 2009 and is based at Carrara to service the Gold Coast region. This helicopter offers greater operational capabilities particularly in assisting other service providers in search and rescue operations.
IOR was founded in the small town of Eromanga, Queensland in 1984, with the construction of the Eromanga Oil Refinery. It was the vision of founders Stewart Morland and Ross MacKenzie to expand IOR’s offer with convenient 24-hour Diesel Stops that would service remote areas of Australia. The first Diesel Stop was opened in 2005 in Winton and IOR now have over 70 Diesel Stops across Australia and are opening new ones all the time.
IOR’s many regional depots are operated by the local community members. They distribute bulk fuel to surrounding communities and regionally-based industries, such as the long-distance transport, farming, local councils, mining and oil and gas.
IOR are passionate about making sure our hard-working customers across Australia can fuel up, keep going and keep growing.
Partnerships are vital to continue to keep the WLRHS operation agile and engaged within its surrounding community.
We are currently seeking partnerships with businesses who would like to be involved with an Aussie icon and see the mutual benefits that can be enjoyed through sponsorship of the WLRHS. The helicopter service seeks to extend its services, benefits and community support to local businesses who wish to contribute to the success of the service.
As a partner of the WLRHS, your business will have the potential to be part of a limited family of sponsors that are licensed to promote their involvement with one of the most iconic institutions on our coastline.
